‘Captain America: Civil War’ Opens to $200M Overseas, Certified 95 Percent Fresh

They like it. They really like it! “Captain America: Civil War” opens in the U.S. this Friday, May 6, but many lucky fans around the world got to see it over the weekend, giving it an estimated $200.2 million opening. According to Deadline , that’s just behind the international debut of last year’s “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” but it did set all-time opening weekend records in Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines. Disney estimated the “Civil War” opening at 5 percent below “Ultron” — which went on to be the biggest superhero movie of all time around the world, so that’s still not too shabby. Deadline added that “Civil War” was up 26 percent over both “Iron Man 3” and “The Avengers,” and a whopping 157 percent over “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Collider added that the film has now shown to 63 percent of the foreign marketplace; it will open in Russia, China, Italy, and Argentina this Friday, coinciding with the domestic release.
